Tuesday April 4, 2017 l Make Your Move: 5th Annual Dinner featuring Phiona Mutesi

Beautiful World is hosting Phiona Mutesi, the real queen of Katwe and her coach, Robert Katende on Tuesday April 4, 2017. Phiona Mutesi went from living in the streets in the slums of Katwe to learning chess in a Sports Outreach missionary program. She then became one of Uganda’s top chess players, competing in international competitions. She is the 3ed best female player in Uganda and the 102end best in all of Africa. Phiona is a Candidate Master. She is the subject of dozens of media stories, a book and a Disney movie “The Queen of Katwe.” Phiona is an inspiration to millions, and especially to girls in a nation where girls are particularly marginalized.

Beautiful World annual gala in April will bring together the Toronto community to support girls’ education in Sub-Saharan Africa. Guests will enjoy a meal together and hear from Phiona and Robert about their experiences growing up in Uganda. Phiona overcame all odds and is an inspiration to Canadians and Beautiful World students who, like Phiona, come from extreme poverty. Phiona’s life is similar to Beautiful World students in that she grew up in a one parent home with no money for food, let alone school fees. Many of our students are single and double orphans because of AIDs, conflict and other disease. With the help of Beautiful World students receive a full scholarship, opening up many doors of opportunity.

Join us for a night of laughs, learning and fun.
